L’album è stato co-prodotto da Tucker Martine (noto per il suo lavoro con Camera Obscura, Modest Mouse e William Tyler) e dal leader della band Colin Meloy.
Sul nuovo album dei Decemerists sono presenti come ospiti speciali James Mercer degli Shins, sul brano Burial Ground, e Mike Mills dei R.E.M.
The Decemberists si sono formati nel 2000 a Portland, hanno pubblicato 8 album e sono stati nominati ad un Grammy per Best Rock Song nel 2011 e sono considerati tra le più influenti formazioni indie-rock degli ultimi 20 anni.
